From age 7-8, growing up in the Ashanti Region, Agya Koo knew how to sing songs of old Ghanaian highlife musicians like Nana Ampedu, Alex Konadu, and Obuoba J.A. Adofo. He also knew how to play drums and was a drummer at a church he joined in Krofrom, Kumasi. Agya was also a preacher at the Krofrom Market in Kumasi. At the age of 20, he moved from Kumasi to Accra to hustle, and when he got to Accra, he went to live with a group of young men from different towns in the Ashanti Region who slept at night in front of a store opposite Asantewaa Hotel at Accra Newtown.
However, most of these young men Agya Koo came to live with were cobblers, and to survive in Accra, he also decided to be a cobbler. He started working as a cobbler, moving on foot from Newtown to the surrounding areas, and after some time, he and some of his cobbler friends moved to Sakumono Estate, where they continued their hustle. While Agya was living at Sakumono, one of his cobbler friends, who was still in Newtown, went to work for the late Akosua Dede, a sister of the late Ghanaian musician Captain Newman and also a leader of the “Agoro b3 sor” concert party Group located at Abeka Lapaz, Free Pipe, and he recommended Agya Koo as a gifted musician to the leader of the concert Party Group.
Akosua Dede agreed to add Agya Koo to her concert Party Group, and when Agya heard the good news, he went with his friend to Lapaz and started training with the concert Party Group as a musician and an actor. He relocated to Konkomba and started his career with the “Agoro b3 sor” concert party Group, which performed at the National Theatre. His career began in 1995, and in 1997 he received his first award at the National Theatre for being a great entertainer. Later, Agya Koo starred in “Abaawa Mary,” his first movie owned by the late highlife musician and Scriptwriter Nana Kwame Ampedu, and another film produced by the Late Kwame Owusu Ansah.
Agya Koo lived in Taifa, Mamobi, and Kasoa and was still into Concert Parties. At the National Theatre, a group was formed in which he suggested the name Tete Mmofra, but after some time, the group collapsed, and he took it as an individual project and built the group and now he has introduced the Tete Mmofra Film Production and Music Production. He started starring in Kumawood movies after Director Samuel Nyamekye decided to work with him and also, other film producers. Agya has starred in several Ghanaian movies, won Awards, and also released songs in the Ghanaian music industry. He developed an interest in politics when former President Kufour was a flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, and he has campaigned for the NPP Party from those days till now.
