Medikal was born on April 5, 1994, at the St. Dominic Hospital in Akwatia, Eastern Region. He grew up in Anyaa Sowutuom, a suburb of Accra. He is the first child of James Frimpong and Portia Naa Lamptey. Mdk is 29 years old and a native of Osenasi in the Eastern Region of Ghana.

Medikal began his rap career when he was in Primary School. He used to learn the rap lines of rappers in Ghana and abroad and then do a freestyle with his mates in school. Later, Mdk started writing his own raps, and since he wanted to be a rapper, he began looking for people to support his career.
With the help of a music producer named Deep Beats, whose studio he used to record, Medikal and his current Boss, Criss Waddle, became friends, and he decided to sign him to AMG Business, a new record label he had formed at the time. He got signed to the record label in 2010.
However, after Mdk’s signing, he didn’t immediately start releasing songs. It took a few years before he was introduced to the world and given his feature on Criss Waddle’s P3 Kakra song. It was after this feature that he released his first single under AMG Business titled “Confirm.”
